Heavy meals can cause us to feel hotter afterwards. A light sandwich or something straight from the fridge can help in the summer heat. Eat light and stay cool at the same time! Not cooking also keeps the house cooler. Win, win!

Hydration is key for enjoying the summer heat. Aim for 3 quarts of  liquid (3 liters) when you are in and out of the heat. Consider all sources of fluids, remembering that high caffein levels can affect how much you need to drink to replenish your body's fluids.

Surprisingly, long sleeves can have a cooling effect on those hot summer afternoons. Use lighter fabrics, a large hat, and enjoy the outdoors without fear of sunburn. Your skin will thank you!

When it's hot outside, you can adjust to it by slowly increasing the indoor temperature. If you know you'll be in and out of conditioned air, aim for 75 degrees inside, and your trips outside will be easier and more enjoyable for you!

When temperatures soar, so do microbes and food-borne illnesses. Always toss food left in the sun or heat for more than two hours. Be safe, be healthy, and enjoy your picnic the safe way!
