Mattress pads tend to float in the washing machine. Try filling the tub halfway, then pressing the mattress pad into the water and against the sides of the tub. Finish filling the tub for a successful wash and a clean mattress pad!

July ... are you ready? It can feel like the most extreme month of summer, if only compared to June. In your garden, you can prepare your potatoes and carrots by "hilling" them. Pile dirt around each plant as they grow to keep them productive and healthy. The dirt provides insulation from the July sun. A garden hoe works well for this task.

Early potatoes take about 10 weeks to mature. If you planted in April, yours are ready for stew, roasted spuds, or mini-fries! Get to digging and enjoy!

The bright lights and loud noises of the upcoming Fourth celebrations can frighten pets. Create a safe place for them to hide inside. Keeping the television on can help also.

1. Thin patches of volunteer annuals.

2. Check rhododendrons for dry soil. (They like water.)

3. Divide overcrowded patches of bulbs.

4. Deadhead your roses.

5. Pinch back geraniums to encourage new foliage and flowers.
