Now that the end of June is near, prepare for July with additional mulch on your flowerbeds. It will conserve water and cut down on weeds. Two birds with one stone!

Container plants are your priority for watering, and kitchen wastewater is perfect for the job. Established trees and shrubs are generally okay left alone, unless your area is experiencing a drought. Of course, newly planted areas need more frequent watering. Water wisely and protect your water bill!

June is the time to change over your garden to warm-weather plantings. You can try beans, squash, cucumbers ... even corn! They will do well in the heat and taste better on your table!

The sun is a good source of vitamin D, but don't let yourself burn just to get the minimum. You can also get vitamin D from salmon, fortified cereals, and fortified juices. No burn required!

What makes June a superb growing season means weeds are prolific, also. Hoe your garden regularly to keep them under control. Exposing the roots of weed seedlings allows them to dry out rather than rooting into your soil!
