Scent can lift your mood. It can also trigger positive emotions and memories. Find a scent you especially enjoy (floral, herbal, or something that reminds you of a favorite person) and infuse an item in your house with it. Then, when you are down, bring it close and inhale. Mood lifted!

January is no time to slouch off on gardening. You can sow indoors or in a greenhouse all these: celery, celeriac, broad beans, salad leaves, spinach, spring onions, or turnips. Sturdy, clear plastic drink cups make a good "mini-greenhouse." Use one for the soil and a slightly smaller size upside down for the greenhouse roof. Happy salad time!

When you're down emotionally (It's a winter thing!!), try foods with high magnesium. Science tells us there's a link between the two. So, bananas, brown rice, spinach, figs, avocado, Brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds and mackerel ... where are you? I'm heading to the market now.

Load sand into your garden fertilizer spreader before the next storm and leave it parked in the garage ready to go. Have sand, will spread! Ice, no longer a problem! Safe walking for everyone!
