Brighten someone else's day by doing something small for them. Hold the door. Pay for their coffee. Offer a hug. You'll improve your day in the process.

Plan a happy moment in your day. You may not feel it, but schedule it in anyway. Do something that's made you feel good in the past and take time to let yourself soak it in. It can be something as simple as standing in a sunny window and letting the light wash your face. It will make a difference. Try it!

The heaviest baggage anyone can carry is resentment. Feelings of anger eat our psychic space, and we can no longer function. Toss off resentments. A grudge aimed at parents, partners, or peers eats us up, not them. It's hard, but let it go. You'll live a brighter, fresher life when you do.

Society requires us to be polite and socially accommodating, and some days we feel we're faking it. Just remember, your inner values are core to who you are. Never compromise, and you'll be the best person you can be.

Patterns in life are good for us, such as visiting the same beach house each August, a favorite dress or cup of coffee, or a scheduled chat with a good friend. Smaller activities that happen in the same way on a regular basis, whether it's exercise or a favorite song or movie, give us a sense of control over our chaotic lives. Make a plan today, then do it!
