Borax is an old-time cleaner that's coming back into favor. You can make a natural toilet bowl cleaner by mixing 2/3 cup borax and 1/3 lemon juice. Apply to the inside of the toilet bowl and let sit for two hours. Scrub and flush for a gleaming shine. (You can also mix white vinegar with your borax. Let sit at least four hours before scrubbing away!) One brand of borax readily available is 20 Mule Team Borax, available in most cleaning aisles.

If you're a coffee drinker, save those empty coffee cans. Spray paint them bright colors and they become colorful crayon organizers. You can do the same with smaller cans no matter what comes inside.

Hot (or cold) air falling from unused registers can create uncomfortable drafts. Use clear, removable weatherstripping (White Lightning SEASONSeal is one brand.) to seal clear plastic flowerpot drip trays to the registers. Cut or shape as needed, then remove when it's time to run the system once again. Comfort level improved!

Many of us still write checks, but likely we all have extra checkbook wallets. Toss the stuff inside, because your old checkbook wallet is perfect for organizing coupons. Next time you head to the store, no coupon will go unused!

Gooey gum on your shoe is gross. At the first opportunity, drop the shoe in a disposable shopping bag and set in the freezer. Fifteen minutes is enough. Use a dull knife to pry the brittle gum from your shoe. Job done!
