On the first cool day, send your household handyman (your husband!) into the attic with a roll of duct tape. Have him check for leaks at joints in your ductwork. Special metallic duct sealing tape is the best choice for a lasting seal. The heating costs you save over the winter will be money in your pocket!!

Summer heat might be hanging around, but fall starts this month. At the first chilly nip, swap out your summer sheets for flannel ones. Then you can turn down the heat and be comfy all night long.

Summer roadside stands won't last much longer. Pick up the last of summer's fruit and berries to make perserves. Have your family make personalized labels for their favorite jars. Store them within easy reach, and they will remind you of summer all winter long.

Surprise snowstorms can come in some parts of the country as early as the end of September. Repair cracks and loose pavers in your walks now. It will make it easier to shovel snow on those cold and cloudy days.

Now's not the time to let your lawn go to seed. Fertilize and mow to encourage root growth. Cool nights will be here before you know it, and your grass will begin to slow down. You want hardy grass roots to overwinter in the coming  season.
