Keeping a journal helps you track your life. Detail is important. Instead of "I planted flowers in the yard," say, "I planted 26 varieties of flowers, including Shasta daisies, purple asters, and yellow daylilies." More interesting? You bet!

If seedlings are spindly, they need tossed. They likely didn't get what they needed and will not perform well in the coming months. Try again or visit the nursery for transplants. You still have time before the growing season hits full tilt!

How about a picnic this weekend? Try a pastel theme with each place differentiated by napkin color and/or cup color. Hint: use your leftover plastic Easter eggs for seating. Each attendee (children included) can select an egg. Open it to discover the color of their place at the table! (Kids will enjoy a candy treat included in their egg!)

Birdhouses and batboxes can be a mess by the end of the winter season. If you haven't emptied out old nests, now's the time. If you find birds already nesting inside, you might need to postpone this chore until the eggs hatch and the birds vacate the premises. Keep your binoculars handy. You may even see the young ones taking to wing!

We know that April in the northern hemisphere is when new growth erupts, but where does the month get its name? One theory is from the Latin aperie or apricus, which means to open, or sunny. Another theory is from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty (Spring, anyone? ... beautiful!). Wherever the name originated, WE LOVE APRIL!
